A few simple habits help your Aspen & Oak candle burn cleanly, evenly, and for every one of its hours.

1. Make the first burn count

The first burn sets the "memory" for the rest of the candle's life. Let it burn until the melted wax reaches the edges of the jar, usually 2 to 4 hours. Stopping early is the number one cause of tunneling.

2. Trim your wicks to 1/4 inch

Before every burn, trim the cotton wicks to about 1/4 inch. This keeps the flame calm, prevents soot, and extends burn time.

3. Burn 2 to 4 hours at a time

Aim for a full melt pool each time, but avoid burning more than 4 hours in one session. Let the candle cool for 2 hours before relighting.

4. Keep it draft-free

Drafts from fans, vents, or open windows cause uneven burning and smoke. Place your candle on a stable, heat-safe surface away from anything flammable.

5. Know when to stop

Stop burning when about 1/2 inch of wax remains at the bottom of the jar.

6. Give the jar a second life

Freeze the jar for a few hours, pop out the leftover wax, and wash with warm soapy water. Use it for cotton swabs, succulents, or desk storage.

Safety basics

  • Never leave a burning candle unattended.
